After starting the reader app the cover flow appears. Here the user's can read the already downloaded copies of the magazine. As usual on the iPad, the App adapts to the respective orientation.

When the user opens an issue (activated by tapping the cover or the "Read" button), he can access the copy for reading.
To turn pages there are some interactive areas which can be tapped (tap = a single tap with your finger):
Alternatively, you can turn to the next page by a strike movement from left to right or vice versa:
It the user taps on de top of the screen the the navigation bar with additional functions is shown. These are:
Tapping on the very left icon will close the current copy and will return to the cover flow.
The article flow will display (like the previews at the bottom of the screen) all the pages in the current issue.

However, all articles are viewed one next to the other for an easier navigation.
User settings button: the user can make various settings according to his personal taste.
The "edit" mode is only visible to the publisher and it is used to edit an issue. This functionality is explained in detail in the next chapters.
The button "content" on the right side of the navigation bar displays a table of contents, which can optionally contain graphics.

A tap on the bottom of the screen switches to page preview, which can be used to quickly navigate within the document.
Active areas within the document
Besides the above-mentioned areas on the screen to open previews or the navigation bar, or go to the next or previous page, there may be additional "active areas” present on some pages. A typical example of such an active area is an advertisement . With the PadPublisher it is possible to make such advertisement interactive, a tap can open e.g. a web site (which is opened in the built-in browser), or it may display a video within the ad. On each page, multiple active areas are can be defined, and each area may have another function defined by the editor (this is described in detail in a later section). In order for the end-users to recognize active areas after turning to a page a “blip” animation appears at all areas which active on this page,.

The "blip" and the associated technology and functionality are patent pending
